At first blush, the common app can seem confusing, even intimidating. It’s anything but.
Thank the good spirit of college applications (there is a mean one) for the Common Application or Common App as it is affectionately known.
It truly is heaven-sent if you’re applying to colleges in the USA. If you haven’t heard of it, it’s an online portal that allows you to apply to multiple colleges in one fell swoop.
We wouldn’t recommend applying to more than 6-10 schools (there are 900 on the App) at the most but however many you choose, you can do it on one centralized portal.
So how does it work?
Once you’ve created an account on the commonapp portal, you’ll find it uses a straight forward application form for gathering all your information.
You fill in personal details, information about school and extracurricular activities as well as your personal statement. You can request school reports, test scores and recommendations directly through the app and give your teachers access to upload them directly. Imagine having to do all this just once!
You can use it to choose your schools, track your progress for each application and keep an eye on deadlines. Some schools have supplemental essays and fees which usually show up on the CommonApp but you should check each school’s website just to be sure you don’t miss anything.
That’s it! Not quite but enough for now 🙂
Check out the CommonApp website and if you have any questions, give us a shout.
